Katherine McDonald Beasley

Mrs. Katherine McDonald Beasley age 85 of Chestnut Mound, TN. died April 22, 2008 at her home with her daughter present after a very determined two-year battle against cancer. Born June 16, 1922, in Gordonsville, TN., to John and Julia Ashley McDonald. Katherine was a 1940 graduate of Gordonsville High School. After her high school graduation, she attended Tenn. Polytechnic Institute (now TTU) in Cookeville, TN. Katherine then began her 25 year career as an elementary school teacher. Katherine resided in Chestnut Mound after her marriage to Jesse Beasley in September 1949. Foremost in her life was her strong faith in God and her love of the Chestnut Mound United Methodist Church where she served in various roles. Katherine enjoyed travel, all playing levels of football and basketball, and her many pets she adopted over the years. After her 1982 retirement from Smith County Schools, she was involved in various organizations in Smith County. In 1994, Katherine was awarded the Member of The Year by all Smith County FCE chapters. She was named Carthage General Hospital’s 2002 Volunteer of the Year. Katherine was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Also preceded in death by Three Brothers; A.T., Brice, and Roy McDonald. Three Sisters; Ruth Gross, Eleanor Williams, and Betty Jean McDonald. Two Half-Sisters; Reba Agee and Mary Haywood. She is survived by her Daughter, Susan Beasley of Nashville. Step-Son, Jim Beasley of Pewaukee,WI., his wife Barbara, their Three Daughters, Laura, Elizabeth, and Sarah and their families. Sisters; Maxine (William) Hancock of Murfreesboro and Evelyn (Joe) Kelley of Lancaster. Brothers; Charles (Elaine) McDonald and Gail (Louise) McDonald both of Gordonsville. Sister-In-Laws; Mildred (A.T.) McDonald of Madison, Kate (Brice) McDonald of Marietta, GA., Jewell (Roy) McDonald of Gordonsville. Several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at Bass Funeral Home, Carthage, TN., on Thurdsday, April 24, from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM and on Friday from 12 Noon until we leave to go to the church at 1:00 PM. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Frank Blair and Rev. Jeff Cotterman at the Chestnut Mound United Methodist Church on Friday at 2:00 PM. Interment in Smith County Memorial Gardens, Carthage. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are the Smith County Retired Teachers, Elmwood/Chestnut Mound FCE Club, and the Riverview Regional Medical Center Hospital Volunteers. Memorials may be made to either the Chestnut Mound United Methodist Church or the Smith County Retired Teachers Scholarship Fund c/o Bass Funeral Home.
