Mary Elizabeth Addy

Mary Elizabeth Addy, 78 of Chestnut Mound TN, passed away at home on December 23rd,2025 at 9:22 a.m. She was born in Gallatin TN on March 15th, 1947. She was preceded in death by her father James H. Draper of Chestnut Mound and mother Stella Norgren Draper of Shrewsbury England, her only brother David P. Draper of Poole England and daughters in law Josie Addy and Angie Addy. On October 12th 1963 she was united in marriage to Anthony Addy in Shrewsbury England. Mary was a woman who worked hard, spoke her mind and did things her own way. She was strong willed, which is shown by her relocating with her family to Chestnut Mound TN. from the life she knew in England in 1977. She could be stubborn and wouldn’t have it any other way. If you knew her, you knew exactly where you stood – and you knew she cared, even if she didn’t always say it out loud. Mary was a great cook who fed her family well and often, and a storyteller who could keep you listening long after the meal was over. Her stories carried history, humor and truth, passed down the way only she could tell them. She loved people in her own way—steady, loyal and deep and that love showed through her actions more than her words. She is survived by her husband of over 62 years, Anthony Addy her children John Addy , daughter Angela (Thomas) Gibbs :grandchildren Jessica (Dustin) Dillehay, Michelle Addy, Samantha (Luis) Rodriguez and Brandon Addy: her great-grandchildren, Jackson Dillehay, Noah Bascom, Oliver O’Brien, Josie and Sophia Rodriguez. Her influence lives on in each of them, in their strength, their stories and the family she helped build. In keeping with Mary’s wishes her body was donated to Vanderbilt teaching hospital so that some young doctor might learn something about the conditions that she suffered with in her later years. There will be no service. Those who wish to honor her are encouraged to do so in a way she would appreciate—by sharing a story, cooking a good meal or sitting a little longer at the table with your family. Mary also loved her cats and the dogs that had been in her life and would have appreciated any donations in her honor to the Smith County Humane Society.
