Jane Coward Turner

March 1, 1928 - October 25, 2011

Mrs. Jane Coward Turner, Age 83 of Carthage, TN passed away October 22, 2011 at Riverview Regional Medical Center in Carthage,TN.Mrs. Turner was born March 1, 1928 in Marietta, Ohio the daughter of the late Dr. Sam B. Coward, Sr. and Marie England Coward. She grew up and was involved in the Livingston Community. She graduated from Livingston Academy and attended Tennessee Tech University for three years where she met and later married Chancellor Edward M. Turner. They were married on December 29, 1948 and he preceded her in death on May 15, 2005. She was also preceded in death by Two Daughters; Virginia Lee Turner and Catherine Petrucelli. She was an active volunteer with Riverview Regional Medical Center, American Red Cross, and Girl Scouts of America. She was active in the 4-H Club, PTA, Mother’s Club and a Band Mother. She had a love for Genealogical and Historical Studies being a member of the Smith County Historical Society and a charter member of the Caney Fork DAR. She was the co-author of the Smith County History Book and the Cemeteries of Smith County. She was a member of the Carthage United Methodist Church and sang in the church choir. Mrs. Turner is survived by Three Daughters; Teresa Marie Turner of Carthage, TN, Barbara Jane Turner (John) Maxwell of Carthage, TN, and Elizabeth Myer (William) Cameron of Cookeville, TN. Two Grandchildren; John W. Leftwich, Jr. Of Cookeville, TN and Virginia Ann Maxwell of Carthage, TN.Brother; Dr. Sam B. (Katherine Hines) Coward, Jr. of Algood, TN. Several Nieces and Nephews.Funeral Services for Mrs. Turner will be conducted 10AM Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at the Carthage United Methodist Church. Rev. Jerry Wallace and Bro. Tim Frank will officiate and Interment will follow in the Ridgewood Cemetery. Visitation with the Turner family will be at the Carthage Chapel of Bass Funeral Homes on Monday from 5PM to 8PM and on Tuesday after 9AM in the Gathering Room of the Carthage United Methodist Church. Honorary Pallbearers: Helen Birdwell, Sue Maggart Petty, Board of Directors of Citizens Bank, Members of the Daughters of American Revolution and Sitters, Darlene Claywell, Shaeri Johnson, Clara Sadler and Ann Wallace. Active Pallbearers are David Bass, Royce Belcher, John Leftwich, Jr., Jimmy Wheeler, Frances Kemp, Mark Tuley, Sam Coward, III and Stephen Russell.In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to MacKenzie Reeder Fund, Smith County High School Band or the Becomers Circle of Carthage United Methodist Church.
